Les Halles De Dijon (Dijon Food Market)

Grocery stores have all your needs but in the town of Dijon, there's a food market known as Les Halles de Dijon. Image a large scale farmer's market. If you can't imagine it, take a look at this video.

Just like farmer's markets in the US, you can try little samples of the various goods. I tried a pork sausage while I was there and it tasted just like I liked a pig, almost too robust of a flavor. But the good news is, there are so many options you can have whatever you like.

This type of market system is popular throughout Europe and Asia. Foods are fresh and brought in on a daily basis. You buy what you need, cook it that night, and enjoy a great meal. When I studied abroad in France during highschool, I remember my host mom picking out fresh salad, veggies, and chicken. And if you haven't had a home cooked meal in France, you're missing out.

If you're making a trip out to Dijon, this is a place you must stop. It's great to bring the family and teach your kids about produce and let them be a part of deciding what's for dinner. If you're hankering for something sweet, you can pick something to go as well. Just remember to come in the morning, bring a reusable grocery bag, and try to speak some Francais.

Les Halles is open Tuesdays, Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays.
