Best Crêpes in Paris

Traveling is always exciting! One of my favorite places to visit is France, and when I'm there. I usually visit Paris and of course will eat some crêpes.

How can you not? This trip I ate two a day! These next few posts will give you an insider's look into Paris & Dijon, all the best places to eat, travel, transportation, sightsee, and more.

In this video, we're outside the Louvre and Roue de Paris (Ferris wheel). You'll find this small stand after you cross the street and although it's not the cheapest cart out there, it's delicious.

Ordering

When you order crêpes, as you can hear in the video, many people will speak to you in English if you try speaking a little French.

To order you would say Je prends... then fill in what you would order.

If you want a crêpe with Nutella, you could say "Bonjour, je prends une crêpe avec chocolat."

Essentially, what you're saying is Hello, I'll have a crepe with chocolate. People understand what you're saying even if you haven't said it perfect. They also appreciate the effort.

Manners

It's important to say hello. Manners are important everywhere, but especially in France. A bonjour goes a long way. I've cut a long of the long convo I've had out of the video, but you'll get to see a basic interaction.

Payment

When it comes to payment, you want to make sure you know your money. Although many shop vendors are nice, time is money. When you are fumbling through change, it takes time and some people can get annoyed. It didn't happen to me, but I've seen it happen. Be prepared for your trip and know what your coins look like.

Making Your Own

Now, everyone knows crêpes in Paris taste amazing. It's hard to replicate it. However, here's a recipe I use as a baseline.

It's from Allrecipes.com. Click here if you want the basic recipe.

If you take that recipe:

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup all-purpose flour

  • 2 eggs

  • 1/2 cup milk

  • 1/2 cup water

  • 1/4 teaspoon salt

  • 2 tablespoons butter, melted

And make these adjustments, you'll have some yummy crêpes!

1. Use whole wheat flour

2. Use skim milk

3. Skip the salt and use salted butter instead

4. Add a pinch of orange zest

5. Add 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg and cinnamon

6. Add a splash of vanilla extract.

Cooking:

  • Turn stove on low-medium. Make sure your pan has had time to heat before you toss the first one on.

  • Spray your pan with oil or use some butter to grease the pan.

  • Mix everything together and spoon out in your pan. Make sure the spread is thin.

  • Cook on one side till you see the color of the crêpe darkening. You'll know the batter has cooked when it's all one color.

  • Flip the crêpe and cook on the other side. You're aiming for a golden brown color.

  • Serve with Nutella, your choice of fruit, jam, or whipped cream.

  • Enjoy!!

If you make these and enjoy the crêpes, let me know :)
